Q-emuLator DEMO is a demonstrative version of Q-emuLator 1.0, the QL emulator for the MacOS. Q-emuLator DEMO is the same as the commercial version except that you cannot read nor write files; the only exception is that you can read a QL demonstrative program included in the package (in the 'QL demo software' folder).
System requirements
MacOS system 7.0 or later, 4M of RAM, color monitor.
Installation
Installation is the same as for Q-emuLator Lite, therefore refer to the 'How to install Q-emuLator Lite' document. If you have already installed Q-emuLator Lite then just copy the 'QL_ROM' file to the folder containing the Q-emuLator DEMO application (you can copy a file with the Finder by pressing the option key while dragging the file to the new destination) and you are ready to start Q-emuLator DEMO.
What can I do with Q-emuLator DEMO?
You can use Q-emuLator DEMO to preview the commercial Q-emuLator's features and performance.
You can run the QL demonstrative program included in the package; this software shows the graphic capabilities of the QL and has four parts: the first is a demonstration of the BLOCK, SCROLL and PAN commands, which are particularly fast in Q-emuLator as they have been rewritten for the MacOS instead of emulating the QDOS code; the second is a 3D wireframe graphic demonstration, which uses optimized QL graphic routines and takes advantage of the two video pages available in the QL; the third and fourth program are graphics demonstrations now in the public domain.
You can also use the SuperBASIC environment: just exit from the demonstration or get the program out of the microdrive slot (click on the slot and then on the 'Cancel' button) before pressing F1 or F2. You can write and execute any SuperBASIC programs, although you cannot save them.
As an aside, you can even run the QL demonstrative program on your QL, to compare its speed with Q-emuLator's (be aware, however, that the comparison is limited to graphics operations, while general computation speed is usually different). Just use Q-emuLator Lite to copy the files from your Macintosh to a QL-formatted floppy disk.

Using files and testing your software
To test the compatibility with your QL software or to use the file handling capabilities of Q-emuLator, which have been removed from the DEMO version, you can use Q-emuLator Lite, although the speed is limited to only about 25% of that of an original QL and some features (like sound) are missing.
